when registering...
please join with your character's first name and only your character's first name. the only reason a person should use their alias as a username is if it is for their staff account, and at the moment we only have our two admins. please don't put 'lilypotter' as a username, either. just 'lily' would do. this helps us ensure that we don't have three 'jane's running around on the site before we even have thirty characters, which gets really annoying. yes, many people in real life share the same name, but 'jane's are not one tenth of the population. once you join please modify your display name to be your character's 'first middle last' names all in lowercase.
when creating a character...
please pay attention to the bans and needs of the forum, which can be found stickied in the 'enrollment' board. they are updated as needed to ensure that our site does not run wild with werewolf students, females, etc. the 'needs' are just suggestions to help even out ratios or provide our site with a needed group of characters for plot purposes, not mandatory to follow, but pepper may bake you cookies if you take their suggestions. the admins will monitor applications, and if one goes unedited (without an absence note or speaking to an admin) for one week, it will be denied, though you are free to repost it when you return.
as far as special abilities go, we ask (as of november third) that characters have the limits of no special abilities for four/fifth years, one for sixth/seventh years/eighteen year olds, two for those under the age of twenty, and three for everyone else. if you wish for your character to have more than their allowed number of abilities, pm pepper/jade. you will need to give them some time and have them learning the ability first, but we can explain more in pm.
the admins have made the decision not to allow characters third year or younger on the site. fourth year and older we encourage, obviously, because it will mean that you're joining our lovely family, but due to us not allowing play bys the ages of third years and younger and the small amount of rpers who prefer to use such characters, we've decided to ban them outright.
teog is a one character per account site. it keeps things more organized, and the admins wouldn't have it any other way. we apologize for the inconveniences this may cause, but we feel that in the end it is better for a harry potter site. less confusing.
when choosing a face claim...
face claims, play bys, you all know what we're talking about here. face claims are mandatory on the site, and they must be an established 'celebrity'. real life face claims only, please, no anime. by 'established' we mean that if we need to find images of your character for, say, an of the month that your epic character happened to win, we have more than two blurry myspace photos to choose from. we on teog do not allow any face claims the ages of thirteen and younger out of respect for these younger celebrities. yes, they've had their faces splashed over the media, but that does not mean we need to exploit them on our site, as well. there are certain face claims who have requested their images not be used on roleplaying sites, and we also respect their wishes. more information on that can be found here, but for a quick list they are zoe kimball, lara jade, freida rose, lauren peralta, twiggx, and alice cheynet.
your face claim must be age appropriate. this means that you cannot use someone who looks thirty for a fourteen year old character. no. just. no. this is a major pet peeve of one of the staff members, so please do not be offended if we ask for you to choose a different face claim or to up your character's age. some twenty-five year olds can pass for fifteen, others cannot. we stretch allowances a bit for the small number of good face claims around the ages of fifteen, but we're still very focused on this rule. again, please don't be offended. if you have an issue with a 'ruling', please bring it up in pm with one of the admins.
once accepted, not before you are accepted, please make sure that you claim your play by. if another member comes along, wants to use your celebrity, and does so because they do not see them on the face claim list, they have the right to that face claim. save yourself the stress of finding a new playby for your character- just claim them. it takes two seconds after acceptance.
when roleplaying...
the site word count is three hundred fifty words. that's 350, and hey, look, we've even included a nifty little code at the bottom of your post input that tells you how many words you have! now, 350 is a fair bit, but we'd like for teog to be a more literate site. everyone has low muse days, so here's a little add on to that rule: if you normally reach 350, but happen to have low muse days or a low muse week or something and at least reach 200, we're good. you've tried, we acknowledge that. however, if you never seem to reach 350 or consistently hit lower than 200, we may have a problem. by the way, the word count does not include any nifty little coding you have in your post. we're talking about the actual words that other people can read here. by the way, please use proper grammar when roleplaying. obviously the staff doesn't care much about capitalization (sorry, i ((pepper)) am addicted to the look of all lower case), but please be consistent in whatever capitalization you use and make sure that the rest of your grammar is readable. as well we ask that you please rp in third person and past tense.
the usual rules apply on teog. no god modding, no powerplaying, etc. respect your fellow roleplayers please. we come here to have fun, not become stressed out over some stupid drama because we argue with another over something their character did.
when getting graphics...
avatars are mandatory and may be no larger than 150x300 but must be at least be 100x100. if you have been accepted for more than five days and do not have an avatar yet, an admin may find you one. on a similar note, if your avatar is improperly sized we may just jump in and fix it up (not changing the image, just the size). signatures should be no more than 500px wide and 400px tall, though we would prefer you keep them around 400x300 or so. we won't yell at you if you exceed that, it's just personal preference. your avatar must be an image of your character, as should be any large images in your signature, please.
when making new characters...
remember the spell 'alohomora', for it may be important soon... we have no gender ratio rule at the moment, though if things become really out of hand we may have to put one into effect.
when considering what is or is not appropriate...
teog is rated pg-13. all content on our board must be considered appropriate for those thirteen and under, even if those under thirteen cannot join our awesome community. if your characters get heated, please fade to black. no extreme violence, glorified drug use, etc. if you have to question if something is suitable for the eyes of an eight year old, it probably isn't. please also be aware that some things on teog may not be allowed, even if they unfortunately occur in real life. we have to be careful not to allow anything that will close down our lovely site.
student pregnancies: must be run by an admin, first. it has recently come to our attention that a site could be shut down for such things, and so don't hold your breath for permission, i'm afraid. if your characters are over eighteen and still in school, then run it by an admin. if they are younger than eighteen, you may still ask an admin, but we're unsure at this point of what we shall allow. at the moment we are thinking that only seventh years may have pregnancy plots, and not all seventh year pregnancy plots will be accepted (we judge based on the plot itself) but this could very well change.
when interacting out of character...
two rules are tied for the 'number one' rule at teog, and they go hand in hand: be respectful, and have fun. if everyone is respectful, everyone is happy, and if everyone is happy, everyone has fun. keep drama off of the site, please, but if it cannot be avoided bring it to pms and contact a staff member. we want you guys to be happy, so we will try to help you sort out your differences as impartial mediators. if, however, you are just meaninglessly causing up drama with other roleplayers, we will ban you. sorry to say it, but one person is not going to ruin the enjoyment of all.
the admin's word is law. please respect us- we try to be fair. if you feel that our judgement is extremely off, feel free to talk to us about it as long as you are being respectful. we don't mind debates (actually, we love them), but if a debate turns into an argument we will become upset. you don't want that, especially with jade. she is terrifying when angry... (believe me- i've lived with her for three years).
when finished reading the rules...
that's it! thanks for taking the time out of your day to read all of that. any questions can be pmed to the main admin account or asked in the chat box, and we will be glad to answer them. thank you!
